Local dealership to load truck with donatedfood to help battle hunger during the holidays

Airdrie,AB(Tuesday, November 8, 2011) – Cam Clark Ford and the Airdrie Food Bank team up to‘Fill an F150’ with food donations to help raise awareness and battle hunger inAirdrie. The dealership will be collecting non-perishable food items tofill the truck until Saturday, December 10^th, 2011.

“Weare excited to host the ‘Fill an F150’ campaign for the Airdrie Food Bank,”says Chris Tobias, the Sales Consultant at Cam Clark Ford who initiated thecampaign, “we want to do our part this holiday season to give back to thecommunity and help those who need it most.”

Thisis the second annual food donation campaign hosted by Cam Clark Ford. Last year, the dealership was able to donate more than $2000 worth of food andthey hope to exceed that amount this year.

“CamClark Ford has been a wonderful partner that has done a lot for the AirdrieFood Bank as well as for the community. The donations will come to us ata crucial time with the need for our services expanding,” says Lori McRitchie,Executive Director at the Airdrie Food Bank.

Along standing business in the Airdrie community, Cam Clark Ford has always beena strong supporter of the local food bank. In 2010, Cam Clark Ford, alongwith local resident Stan and Jane Grad, donated a 2009 Ford E-150 cargo van tothe Airdrie Food Bank to help the organization deliver donations around thecity.

“Weare very grateful for the vehicle they donated, we use it every day and it hashelped us tremendously with expanding our services and reaching the people whoneed the food bank,” says McRitchie.

Todonate, bring non-perishable food items to the Cam Clark Ford dealershiplocated at 925 Veterans Blvd, Airdrie and help ‘Fill an F150’. Thedealership is open from 8:30am to 9pm (Monday to Thursday), 8:30am to 6pm(Friday to Saturday), and closed on Sunday. Donations will be collected untilSaturday, Dec 10^th.

Airdrie, Alberta (September 28).Six-year-old Airdrie resident Kate Kucharski was thrilled to discover onSeptember 27 that her cupcake design had won first prize in Avenue Cakery & Bakeshoppe’s Artember Creative KidsContest searching for the best cupcake recipe. From the more than 100 entriesreceived, bakery owner Debi Macleod narrowed down the list to the top ten. “Wehad to narrow it down to ensure we could actually produce the cupcake idea,”says Macleod. “Some kids were so creative, but a seven foot tall Oreo cupcakeisn’t very practical for our ovens.”

The top ten designs were rated by a jury of kids, whonamed Kate’s Banoffee cupcake the winner. Kate’s Banoffee cupcake consists of a vanilla cupcake with a graham cracker base,filled with fresh bananas and creamy toffee and topped with whipped cream andmore toffee with a crunchy sprinkle of toffee. She came up with the idea forthe cupcake from a pie her mom made, and spent two hours designing her entrypicture, complete with hand-drawn cupcakes, recipe, and many cupcake stickers.The proceeds from the sale of her cupcakes this week will be going to CreativeAirdrie. Kate won six cupcakes of her choice weekly for one year. The firstplace she’s taking her winning cupcakes? “To my teachers!” she said.

Second place in the CreativeKids Cupcake contest was Cassandra’s Nanaimo Bar Cupcake, and third place wentto Anthony’s Hot Cocoa with Marshmallows.

Airdrie artist Glen Collin was chosen to paint a 48-foot mural in Irricana.

The eight-foot high mural will be completed in two sections and the artist completed the first 24-foot half just in time for Irricana's centennial celebrations this weekend. It is located on the east side of the Luff building in Irricana on main street and it depicts an old-fashioned stream train and Alberta Wheat Pool elevators from the 1930s.

The City of Airdrie Recycle Depot is proud to announce the grand opening of the Westside Recycle Depot at the Home Depot parking lot.

"We are thrilled to open up the Westside Recycle Depot and provide another venue for resident’s to dispose of their recyclables," says City of Airdrie Mayor Linda Bruce. "The opening is another way that we are listening and responding to residents, as recycling programs were recognized as an important element within the recent survey conducted. Offering further options inevitably will increase our waste diversion rates, whereby less material is seen in our landfills and supports Airdrie’s commitment to building an environmentally sustainable community."

The Westside Recycle Depot accepts less items than the Eastside Recycle Depot. A list follows:

A big thank you to Mike from the UPS Store in Airdrie, I am one of the people who forgot to bring cash and I owe Mike big time for the twoonie he placed in my hand that enabled me to get in the door, there I was with a wallet full of plastic and only 3 bucks in change.

Art in City Hall is a new program that will showcase local Artists in City Hall meeting rooms.

At this time we would like to welcome the art of Char Vanderhorst to the Great Room and Tami Hortlathwell to the Bowers Room.

Over the next few months we invite you to drop down and have a look at their colourful paintings. The Artwork will be displayed for two months and switched in and out on an ongoing basis. On January 12th, Haiti had no warning. A 7.0 magnitude earthquake ripped apart their way of living. Hundreds of thousands Haitians have lost their lives.

Fox Sports Grill, in partnership with the Range 106.1 91.5, present Hearts For Haiti, February 14th and 15th, a weekend fundraiser, supporting the Canadian Red Cross Haiti Relief Fund.

25% of all sales and tips collected over the two days as well as proceeds from a silent auction will be donated.

Airdrie Treecycle 2010

This year's treecycle event was a great success !

Over 200 Christmas trees were collected and taken away
to be turned into wood chip mulch for Airdrie's parks.

The Airdrie Food Bank benefits directly from this annual
event with food and cash donations, as well as the proceeds
from the silent auction which took place inside City Hall.

Safeway got a paint job ... Dollarama opened and Value Drug Mart turned
into Paragon Pharmacy - post office still there.The Source seems to have moved from its' temporary
location and Fox Sports Grill has been open since April.Staples and TD Canada Trust

It's the Centennial Homecoming Weekend!

Here's a photo of the Centennial Sphere Art unveiled at the
100th birthday celebration last night. It was hard to get a
good angle of the big stone and metal ball without standing
ten feet tall, and I wasn't about to start climbing the brickwork.

I stopped inside city hall to look at the Art Fundraising exhibit
and while I was there I picked up a full-color glossy souvenir book
published by here's the scoop, lots of interesting stories about
local families, and there's a detailed schedule of events for

While I was in city hall I realized my camera was still in my hand

Nose Creek Valley Museum Gets Official Website

LOCAL MUSEUM GETS OFFICIAL WEBSITE

Nose Creek Valley Museum is now up and running with a brand new website, just in time for Airdrie’s Centennial Celebrations next weekend.

Web designer and local resident, Janice Palmer, who donated the site through her company, Airdrie Web Design Ltd., was concerned about the mis-information floating around the web, and says, “a google search for ‘nose creek valley museum’ or ‘airdrie museum’ brought up pages and pages of world-wide-web directory listings and most of these were incorrect - the opening hours were wrong, as was the address, and the rest of the info was either out-of-date or described inaccurately!”

And so the idea of an “official” website for the museum was born. The new site features basic information about the museum such as hours, admission fees, and location, and photos of the museum’s numerous collections.

Visitors to the site can also take a sneak peek at the museum’s meeting rooms which are rentable to the public, and watch a slide show of the museum’s carpentry shop, where volunteers make garden furniture and patio accessories, donating profits from the sale of these solid wood pieces back to the museum.

The website has been donated at no cost to the museum in celebration of the city’s Centennial year, and Janice says, “as the official website for the museum, we hope to provide accurate information about the museum, and to encourage people in Airdrie to visit the museum”. The cost is only $2.00 per person and children under 12 are free. Bring the whole family and find out why life in the past lane is fun for everyone!

The Airdrie Public library is hosting the Airdrie Artist Guild Centennial Exhibition, Saturday August 29th from 11.00 to 4:00. There will be an art exhibition with refreshments, prizes and demonstrations.

The Guild wanted to do something special for Airdrie's 100th birthday through an Art Auction fundraiser of beautiful original paintings which were donated by members of the Airdrie Artist Guild. We want to develop an Art Enrichment Program for the seniors of Airdrie . The program will provide an innovative, fun and creative opportunity to enhance physical and artistic awareness for seniors.
